Hello Africology Spa...

Sitting in my office one rainy Tuesday morning, I received a (very welcomed) call from the Africology Spa at the Maslow Hotel inviting me to experience their signature treatment, the Shaman’s Journey massage:

A gentle, kind and warm rose quartz crystal massage that releases pent-up energy likely to cause muscular stress. The muscles are gently stretched while heat is applied to soften the muscle, followed by a rhythmic relaxing massage. A beautiful way of balancing the body’s energy centres to create optimum health and well-being. Your treatment is based on the traditional healer’s approach to healing the body.

They also go on to say that the Shaman’s Journey not only observes the client’s obvious aches and pains but looks further into your energy centres to see how constant stress and emotional baggage blocks the flow of your energy.

I was strung out and tired from an epic but exhausting roadtrip with friends over the December holidays, so this could not have come at a better time. I excitedly reserved a booking for the next day and I felt instantly more relaxed just thinking about the pampering coming my way.

My Arrival

The Maslow Hotel is a very welcoming, professional and elegant hotel. I was welcomed warmly by the guard and directed to the lobby. Once inside, they called my therapist who came down to fetch me. The reception area of the Africology Spa was filled with a countless amount of tantalising beauty treatments and a sugar-free-tasting iced tea for my arrival - the best kind.

I went into the changeroom, put on the sexy disposable underwear and holiday-feely white spa gown and walked with my therapist to where the magic was about to happen.

The Shaman's Journey Experience
The whole treatment lasted 90 minutes... each of those minutes spent in utter bliss. It was a flowing combination of the best parts of various massage techniques. The warm crystals reminded me of a hot stone massage, while the scents and inhalations of the essential oils brought in the aromatherapy energies.
After the experience, the therapist told me what she picked up from my chakras and what I should do in order to free those blockages. I found it very accurate and I was surprised how she picked up on certain things.
I don't really want to give too much away, as you really should experience it yourself - there is absolutely nothing negative to say about the Africology Spa or the massage! I was so enthusiastic about this whole experience that I spent R380 on this amazing Chakra Candle afterwards... a purchase I have since not regretted as it smells amazing and the soy wax is a great moisturiser. It's said to help alleviate a blocked throat chakra and it always seems to help uplift my spirits.

Overall, this full body massage was unlike any other I've ever experienced. I will go on to say that it's the best professional massage I've ever had. I am already planning my next visit to this spa to try out some of their other offerings and amenities... I really can't wait to climb into this sparkly blue, inviting pool... :D
